WHAT IT MEANS

I've been asked
by people who think about life

do I know
how to live one's life

but I don't tell them
how to live their lives

I tell them
how life feels
at certain times

I tell them life

is what we love

even when it's not clear
what it means.

HOW FAR

there's a bend
in the road in front

a spot where
the cars & hikers
move out of sight

standing on the roadside

I watch them go

and it's nicer
when they appear
suddenly out of nowhere

like the return
of a distant hope

cars of different colors

and humans

of different colors

from a distance
they look similar

as they walk out of the bend

to reach
their desired place
in the end

or to move on like me
to see

how far you can move.

SMALL BLACK HOLE

at times life looks
like a small black hole

providing no feedback

nor receiving any

letting you wonder
is this
what you call your home

what does compel one
to vanish in darkness

that pulls with a force
of a black hole

have you ever
seen Run, Joe, Run?

the serial

was closed in 76

& at times I'm like Joe
forever running away

while everyone
shouts run, man, run

I'll tell you I too stop
to find my way back

when
all I see
ahead of me

is a wall.

THE FAKE NIGHT

there are mornings
that are dark like a night

with storms raging
and clouds
all over a sky

& tornadoes that
toss away the homes

there are dawns that are confusing

with the lights gone

in a whim

let us wait
for things
to calm down

while we watch
the rain hitting
the panes

some toys & a picture book
are lying on a rug

& someone
I love too much

keeps asking for my time

we shall play with a few toys
& journey through the picture book

we shall watch
the rain
and the wind thumping on panes

and believe
that like every night

this fake night too will end.

RED TURTLES

the warriors have failed
their lives are going haywire

their dreams are in a mess

now they dream

of giant red turtles
filling up our world

even though
they can sense

how strange it is

dreaming
of the red turtles

& you think
our time
is a terrible one

though it's been like that
since the beginning of time

while the warriors
with their lives transforming
keep dreaming of weird things

and a few of them
even begin to write poetry

and a few return
to being warriors

after the weird hiatus.
